It’s that time of year, when you can open the windows and let in some fresh air!! It’s also time for some spring cleaning and repairs. 🙁 Before you open your windows you might want to check your screens for rips and holes. I HATE when a fly gets in the house and keeps buzzing around my head…taunting me!
So if you have a screen that looks like this (we had a hail storm last year), it’s a fairly easy fix.
Supplies: roll of replacement screen, razor knife, screen tool, spline
(Screens come in different materials and splines can have different diameters, so make sure to double check before you buy anything.)
1. Take out the damaged screen from the window or door.
2. Start by removing the old spline and screen from the frame.
3. Cut a piece of screen at least an inch bigger on all four sides.
4. Start the new spline in one corner and use the concave side of the roller to press it into the frame.
5. Work your way around the frame, making sure the screen is not sagging.
6. Trim off the excess screen using a razor knife.
Each screen took me about 15 minutes to repair but it got a little quicker the more practice I had.
And so it begins…I have a long list of repairs this year, so as I complete them I will share my tricks and tips with you. What are some of the spring repairs on your list??

I had no idea this process was so simple! Thank you! The dogs love to jump up at the windows outside the kitchen and have torn three screens. I’m no longer intimidated to finally fix my screens. Thanks.

Thanks for this post. I am already prepared for welcoming the spring. We have cleaned the entire home and also had screened the windows. Last year I found difficulty in screening my windows as it was so tall, also I found it difficult to maintain the windows. So we replaced the old windows with the vinyl windows from Clera Windows in Ottawa. It was comparatively easy to make screens for the windows. I was very happy while doing the screening work, it takes 2 days to complete all the screening works.

I work a lot, I like to meet with friends, do hobbies, so people who have time to take care of their home command respect. I forced myself for a long time, but then I decided that I needed to delegate the task called “cleaning” to others. My sister recommended the company and I did not regret contacting them, because here I found a thorough approach and efficiency in cleaning. My sister also contacts them periodically.
