You know the saying that bad things happen in 3’s? Well, ours started about two weeks ago. The computer we got around Christmas suddenly stopped working (bad thing 1). Last Thursday my washing machine gave us it’s last hurrah (very bad thing 2). Then on Saturday, as if we weren’t going to be spending enough money already…my car decided to nearly send me into a total breakdown! I was at a stoplight and it started shaking violently and then the dreaded “Check Engine” light came on. HOLY SMOKE, I couldn’t deal with ANY more car expenses (extremely bad thing 3)!
Good news, my light went off and we can’t seem to figure out what happened (grateful!) Somewhat good news, it’s just the monitor to the computer. So, we were left with only one big expense… a new washer and dryer.
I did some research and figured out exactly which set I wanted, but when we got to the store they were only carrying it in a blue. Scott, convinced me that the color doesn’t matter so we purchased them. Then the night before they were delivered I had a dream that they were this horrible shade of blue and I hated them. Thankfully, they arrived NOT as I remembered and they are a pretty color that I can live with!
As you can see from the picture, the room is super small. We have been planning on rearranging the space to work better, so there’s no better time than now.
The plan is to make the the washer and dryer stackable against the short wall. Then we are going to take out all the cabinets, put down new floor, install white wainscoting, and use the long wall to fill with cabinets and a workspace. Oh, not much! 😉
I want to do the floor in a subway style tumbled marble. I like the pattern I laid out, a herring bone design. What are your thoughts? My only concern is the depth of the tile. I don’t know if the washer and dryer will be too heavy.
If you follow me on Pinterest, you know that I’ve been pinning a lot of laundry rooms. Here’s some of the inspiration for my upcoming makeover.
So, now let me see what projects I am in the middle of?
- Backyard
- Kitchen
- Girl’s room
- Laundry Room
- And many more small things
I need to FOCUS people… I get it! It doesn’t help that there a million end of school things going on and I’m out of town three out of the four weekends in May. Oh, well! It will get done!
Have a great weekend!

I love the herringbone pattern! I will caution you to make sure that what ever tile your going to put down isn’t slippery when wet, one wet towel on the floor and one Mom in a hurry could be a very very sad thing as in Mom and the floor meeting up close and personal. Herringbone is a classic design so your all set.

Robyn, I love it too! They are a pretty rough texture, so hopefully I will be OK!
