Today, I actually started and {almost} completed a project!!! I say, almost, because I need some opinions. My small kitchen makeover is starting to take shape and now I’m one step closer.
This is what I did…
If you missed my kitchen post, take a look at the brackets I was planning on using here. They were from Anthropologie for $24/each. I found these at Hobby Lobby for $7.99 plus 50% off. So for less than $5 each, it was a HUGE savings. I was reluctantly willing to compromise because lets face it, that’s a lot of money.
I used a dry brush paint technique with an off white paint that I had.
Then went over them lightly with a brown stain. It helped “age” them.
I filled them some things I had around the house and added a few flowers from my yard. {This time of year my house is always full of fresh flowers! LOVE!}
Some of my ironstone. I thought I would show it off. ;) I have a small collection of ironstone and a pretty big collection of Jadite. We use them both everyday.
Ok, so I’m sure you’ve noticed that one shelf is painted and the other isn’t? Here’s where I need some opinions. Which do you prefer? I originally thought I would paint them, but now I’m second guessing myself.
What are your thoughts?? HELP!

I say paint them…but a dark color. maybe stain them a dark brown if you feel like messing with it…otherwise, just paint them dark.
I love what you’ve done!!! you’re my inspiration! I really need to hang out with you more often, maybe I’d FINISH what I start. 😉

I really like the lighter shelf. I think contrasts really well with the wall and makes the shelves noticeable but not obtrusive.
VERY COOL PROJECT!

I like the painted white one, I think it ties in with the wall too! I love what you did with the brackets they really look nice!
Angela says
Thanks, Rondell! I think I’m going to have to go with paint, then sand. We’ll see who it turns out! 😉

Unpainted 🙂
Debbie says
I like them painted. What did you do just lay the boards on top of the brackets?
Angela says
Debbie, yes I just got brackets, laid wood over two of them and secured them with screws.

I wondered what you did? did you paint them, I did like them unpainted.
Angela says
Elizabeth, I ended up painting them but I changed the wall color a few years ago and never put them back up. Now I just have decorative plates in that space. 😉
