Our guest bedroom gets used A LOT. We generally have a revolving door of family and friends starting in March until the end of the summer every year. The rest of the year, this room is used more like a storage space and collects all the things that don’t have a home. However, this year seems to be a little different because we will have family from Texas coming in shifts until the end of the year. So while I had a little lull in company, I thought it was time to give this space a makeover and find a home for all the extras.
This was the “cleaned up” before…
The room wasn’t horrible, but to be honest, I haven’t liked the blue wall color since I painted it 7 years ago. It was time for a change. My husband can attest to the fact that nothing stays the same in our house for THAT long.
I wanted the space to have the feel of a loft so I did a brick treatment on the wall behind the bed and painted the rest of the walls a neutral color. Neutral, light colors help open up a small space and this is the smallest bedroom in our house, especially with a queen size bed living there. The brick adds some interest and texture to the space.
My biggest tip for redecorating any room, is to use things you already have from other rooms in your house. I love switching things around to give both spaces a fresh feel.
However, this room needed a new nightstand, which brings me to my second biggest tip for redecorating any room: Shop Big Lots FIRST. I found this fab new nightstand at Big Lots. It’s the perfect proportion for the space and was very budget friendly.
While I was at Big Lots I found some other fun accessories to finish off the room, like this mirror. Big Lots has wide array of quality furniture at great prices which makes any room refresh affordable!
And, of course, a few pillows. I KNOW I have a problem with pillows, but you can never have too many…right?!?
This cute little candle holder doubles as a vase.
So now we just need some guests!!
