Hi there! I’m Sara from sincerely, sara d., and I’m honored Angela asked me to be a contributor on Unexpected Elegance. Angela is so creative and a diva at DIY projects, and I always love seeing what she’s up to.
Today, I’m going to show you how to make a fun clipboard. And the cool thing about this clipboard is that you can customize it to fit any style.
You can obviously use your clipboard how you wish, but I’m using our clipboards with my kids. Together, we’re memorizing a monthly Bible verse. Our verse for this month is Jeremiah 1:9, and I’m sharing the printable with you:
For the DIY clipboards you’ll need:
- clipboard(s)
- scrapbook paper
- Mod Podge
- old brush
- scissors
- spray paint
These clipboards are easy, inexpensive AND cute. I found my clipboards at Target for $2 each.
I spray painted my clipboards with Rust-Oleum paint + primer spray paint. This stuff is awesome. (Remember to do several light coats to avoid dripping.)
Next, I traced the clipboard on the scrapbook paper. I cut about a half inch in so you could see part of the (painted) clipboard.
Also I cut around the actual clip on the board as you can see below…
Next, paint a thin coat of mod podge on the back of the scrapbook paper and adhere to the clipboard.
Now paint over the entire clipboard surface – excluding the clip.
And there you have it! You can create something unique for yourself or as a gift! Or, use yours too for the monthly verse. I’ll be sharing a new printable every month on my blog.
I put a clipboard in my kitchen nook…
And one in my boys’ bathroom…
It was so fun to be with you guys today, and I’m looking forward to next month!
I love this! This scripture has come to my mind a few times this year and I’ve wanted to send it to my brother somehow (he’s deployed in Afghanistan right now). This is perfect. Going to print it off, laminate it, and mail it to him! Thank you! 🙂
Thanks for sharing that!!! I hope he is encouraged by it!! 🙂
This is such a great idea! I love decorating with free printables and the clipboard would be perfect for that. And the fact that it is a craft easy enough that even I, a non-crafty person can do make it even more awesome!
I’ve done this for cage tags for my kids animals at fair. However, the clip part stuck to the mod podged paper and tore it up. Any ideas on how to stop this from happening??
I actually didn’t put the Mod Podge under the clipboard clips. It’s a great thing to point out – I’m pretty sure I would have the same issue. Unfortunately I don’t have any tips for you other than trying to redesign so your Mod Podge isn’t directly under your clips. I hope I helped a little!
Melissa, did you see Sara’s response? I have done something similar with a clear clipboard and put the image on the back. The tutorial is on my other site and here’s the link: http://www.sportsmomsurvivalguide.com/2014/03/21/diy-photo-clipboard-perfect-coach-gift/
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! What a beautiful gift you have given all thank you so very much!!!!
AnnMarie,you’re welcome! 🙂
which Bible version are you using for your verses?
Hello! I love these! How did you convert it to hang on the wall? i.e. What hardware and how is it attached? Thank you!
Thank you so much for this post and for the design!! I want to do a monthly verse to remember with my family.
You are welcome! That’s a great idea!
Would look so much better using Matt or gloss medium because the quality is so much better. The price is a little higher so it doesn’t look like your with wobbles in the paper. I would never use that brush for that size myself. Mod Podge makes a great half a semicircle handled orange and black brush for this exact reason. It’s nice and soft bc paper is delicate even thick paper so you have to treat it right. I can’t do the majority of your DIY’s but this type of thing and cricut project along with embroidery are my everyday project. So I need you help and I appreciate it so much so I wanted to offer a cpl tips I know will work very well.
What a fun and creative DIY project! I love how easy it is to personalize a simple clipboard and turn it into something elegant and functional. It’s always great to find ways to spruce up everyday items, and this is such a clever idea. If you’re looking for more ways to stay organized and on top of things, I recently came across review https://medium.com/@george.kv/paperdon-your-top-choice-for-academic-support-in-2024-c0363e232330 which is all about a platform that’s been super helpful for students who need help with their projects. It’s a great resource for anyone who could use some extra support.
