I normally have my Christmas cards already ordered by now, but Thanksgiving was so late this year that it has thrown me off! I was excited to find this quick and easy Walgreens Mobile App for my phone, and the best part was that my cards were ready in an HOUR!
I just downloaded the app (search: Walgreens Mobile App), clicked on their “Create Photo Cards” and was able to choose which design I wanted. You can use any photo from your phone, even an Instagram or Facebook pic! Then you can customize the wording and send it to your closest store. It was literally that EASY!
But you know me…I can’t leave well enough alone, I had to change it up.
Here’s what I did to give it a more handmade look:
{Supplies: photo cards, twine, washi tape, craft paper, scissors, glue, gold Sharpie}
1.) I wanted to make the design look more aged, so I used a very fine grit sandpaper and lightly sanded it. You don’t want to take too much of the ink off, just a “worn-over-time” look.
2.) Traced a few things with a gold Sharpie
3.) Added a tiny little banner, made of twine and washi tape
4.) Taped the banner on the back
5.) Glued a piece of craft paper over the entire back
6.) Added two pieces of washi tape around the corners and wrote the year
Some other ideas to add to the handmade look would be to use a punch around the edges or print a short letter on the craft paper before you glue it down. The possibilities are endless!
Honestly these didn’t take a lot of time and I enlisted my girls for help. There were certain things that I didn’t want them to do, like using the Sharpie to make the straight lines or cutting the “flag” part of the washi banner, but I let them do the simple things like putting the tape around the twine. taping the banner in place and pasting the back on.
It’s so much more special when the person getting it knows that you spent a little extra time on their card!
Happy Crafting,
Angela
