I’ve been working on some things for my Etsy shop and I thought I would share a tutorial with you today. When you look at this, don’t you immediately think, bulletin board?
Well, I completely dismantled it. I have used every inch of that chair for different things. (more on that later) So I (with the help of my father-in-law) took the seat off.
I sanded and put a clear coat on it.
I used the “frame” as a template and cut a piece of sturdy cardboard.
Then I used the cardboard template to cut cork and foam core.
I glued the cork onto the cardboard with Gorilla glue and let it sit overnight.
The next day, I covered it with a linen fabric. I just used regular staples to attach it. It works best if you staple it in four places equally spaced and then fill in.
Trim the excess fabric and put it in the frame.
Add the foam.
To keep it tight was a little difficult, since it was metal. I used weather stripping and a dowel rod.
It hangs well on it’s own, but you could also use rope. I just threaded it through the holes on the side. (where the legs had been attached)
And it’s done! What do you think? I’m debating on keeping one for myself.
Here’s how it looks without the rope.
I love the juxtaposition of the rustic and refined!

I’ve got to admit I usually look at something and immediately think of something else to do with it but….no, I did not look at that chair and think bulletin board….
You’re good.
