Hello, everyone! Well, I am so glad to finally be able to share my passion with you all! Numerous friends have told me to start blogging and I am happy I took their advice. It will take me a while to get my site looking right, so in the meantime it isn’t going to be too exciting.
A little bit about myself…I LOVE decorating and remodeling and anything to do with design!! I am a stay-at-home mom, so there isn’t much money in the budget for the “finer things in life,†if you know what I mean…my weakness is home furnishings. So, I have to improvise! Most of the time if I can’t afford something I will search for a bargain alternative or make it myself, either way I almost always make it work! So I thought I would ease into my first post and show one of my favorite finds!
We moved into our current home about 1 1/2 years ago and last January In the original design there was no island, because I thought it would make the kitchen cramped. After the cabinets were put in, I started wishing I had an island, but by that point all the money had been spent. So off I went bargain hunting…and hunting. I think I went to every Goodwill in the Indianpolis area, and one day on my way home I stopped by the one right by my house. I fell in LOVE with this really old workbench. I really wish I would have taken some pictures! Let’s just say you had to have my vision. I got some guys to load it up and when I got home my husband was VERY sceptical…he ALWAYS is! It cost me $19.99 and had loads of character!! I tried to save the top, but after hours of stripping I decided it wouldn’t work because we would be eating off of it. Here is the finished product!
I had to buy granite for the top, so I called the original installers. They quoted me a price, which was a little out of my price range, so I asked for a discount. Ask and you shall recieve…and now I have my island!
I hope you enjoyed this “taste†of what’s to come!

What a great reuse! I love that you recycled that workbench- I bet your husband is glad you brought it home now!
